Steps

Tick a step’s number when it’s done. We’ll remember where you were.

  1. Open Goals and choose the department.

  2. On the goal you want, check it has a target: its Goal type isn’t Track only, no target and it has a Value.

  3. Press . The goal gets the North star badge, and the previous north star loses it.

  4. Press the department’s save button, such as Save Executive goals.

When it worked

The department reads “North star: …” in the list, and the seat’s Mission Control tile shows that KPI against its target.

If something goes wrong

  • Make north star is greyed out.

The goal is Track only, no target. Choose another goal type first.

  • Orbit showsA north star needs a target — tracked-only cannot be one.

Change its goal type to one with a target, or make another goal the north star.

  • The north star has no value yet.

Mission Control shows the number with no target until you enter a Value and save. The preview reads “Set a value to show a target”.

How it works

Explainer: A seat’s north star

The north star is the one goal per department shown as the big tile on that seat’s Mission Control board. It always shows, and it needs a target.

  • Each department has at most one north star. Press Make north star on another goal to move it.
  • The first KPI you add to an empty department becomes its north star.
  • A Track only, no target goal can’t be the north star.
  • The north star always shows on Mission Control, so its Show on Mission Control switch can’t be turned off.
  • With no north star goal, the seat’s board shows its built-in figure instead.
  • Teammates who see only some clients get their own number on the tile with no target. Agency-wide KPIs, such as Data freshness, Connector uptime and Rows ingested 24h, keep their target for everyone.

Explainer: The north star tile

The big number in the middle of your board. With a goal set, it shows the goal’s KPI for its period, “of” the target, and a status pill. Without one, it shows your seat’s built-in figure.

What the tile can say
You seeWhat it means
A status pill, such as “92% of target”How the actual compares with the target. Green, amber or red follows the goal type.
A period pill, such as “month to date”The period the goal is measured over.
No target set for this seat.No north star goal is set. Owners and Admins see Set one in Agency Goals; others see “An owner or admin can set one in Agency Goals.”
Well over target — check the period this goal is measured over.A Reach goal is above 125% of target, usually because the period doesn’t match how the target was set.
Your book, not the agency. The agency target is not shown against a narrowed number. You see only some clients, so you get your own number with no target. The pill reads, for example, “your book · 3 clients”.
  • Each figure shows its source underneath.
  • Board figures run up to today. The Dashboard stops at yesterday (UTC), so the two rarely match exactly.
  • Once a goal is set, its KPI and period replace the seat’s built-in figure, so the number can change.
